i'd subimt that It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia really upped the ante as far as the unlikeable-people-are-funny comedy genre is concerned. even in Curb, there's an underlying sweetness to Larry David that really offsets his more awful traits (it probably helps that he's an adorable man).
