I thought the original stance was Lawrence himself didn't want JD and Elliot together?

I love the JD and Elliot story from a shipping stance. The creator wanted to shut down the pairing so hard that he broke them up in season 3 in such a vile way it was supposed to create an utter backlash against the pairing. But it didn't hold. The writing kept creeping the two back together naturally. And so it was.

That pairing is definitely something though I feel like the writers just went with due to fan appeal of the pairing than actually planning it from stage 1.
