Sherri Shepard is plenty funny on 30 Rock. That's the only time I've seen her do anything, so I've got nothing to complain about.

New Girl gave me my biggest laugh of the season, somehow, although it wasn't in a scene with Zooey Deschanel. It was Schmidt's absurdist date with Nadia. McMouse, etc. That said, I don't think it's a top-tier show, but it's at least the funniest show on FOX and comfortable in the second tier along with the Middle,

I think the difference is that while Louis CK also gets down on himself, there's always some current that he's surrounded by worse people. He's got more than a few plots where he seems totally bewildered by the fact that despite the fact he sees himself as a huge asshole, he's still the smartest/nicest/most moral guy

Some of the courage comes from the fact that the show often feels so intensely confessional. I don't know if Hannah feels Dunham's feelings, and lives her life, but it's hard to resist that impression watching it. When you're writing/acting/directing, the line between character and creator feels very thin to me.

I've come around on the show—I like it. But I'm still struggling with Hannah. We're taken so deeply into her self-pity, that I feel cut off in my attempt to feel scornful of her. The show is definitely pushing on both sides there: Marnie and Adam, in consecutive weeks, have shut Hannah out of their lives with
