Oh gods, yes, that was amazing. I was cracking up at the PTSD flashback montage of "Dynamite Gal" references.

Yeah, I was thinking that I would probably spend hours on the kart-creation mini-game.

Another thing that I thought the movie did really well was that the original games portrayed ("Fix-It Felix, Jr.", "Sugar Rush," and "Hero's Duty") all felt like games that real people would legitimately enjoy playing. Compare that with many treatments of fictional video games, where it feels like no one involved had…

Exactly. When god-like beings pop into Deep Space Nine, the get punched in the face by the Sisko. Word gets around. The Prophets can get away with it by virtue of being incorporeal.

Except that Mirror Garak is way more sniveling and ineffectual. Our Garak still takes the cake. Plus, he really doesn't know what "stun" means.

The other thing that we see at this point in the run is a noted lack of random god-like beings. Sure, you have the Prophets, but at least they seem to follow their own rules for the most part. The random god-like beings were some of my least favorite parts of TNG and TOS back in the day.

Y'know, an economics of Star Trek class might actually be pretty awesome!

Totally! In DS9's serialized narrative, about once per season right before the end, the writers liked to throw in a relatively low-stakes palate cleanser that doesn't really push the main narrative of the season forward, but gives the writers time to build the characters up before putting them through the wringer.…

I think it's fairly obvious that Ben was always a nerd. After all, at the age of 18, when other guys would have been celebrating their right to smoke and buy porn, he was running for mayor of a small town. This is not the behavior of a non-nerd by any stretch of the imagination.
