I had a similar reaction to the lizard/alien baby from the original V. I never remember watching the show as a kid but somehow I caught that scene and I had nightmares about it for years. I just watched it again on youtube and, yep, it's still horrifying.
Oh practical effects. Even still shots like this give me nightmares. CGI horror movies are just embarrassing, at this point.
