Without taking away from her talents (which were substantial) though, her biggest contribution to music wasn't even her contribution. "Love to Love You" was a landmark with regards to what a producer could accomplish in the studio, and effectively laid the groundwork for most modern dance and R&B music. J Dilla,…

Read through most of the comments (well, searched). While I don't think it was necessarily an express intent of the show, it's interesting how the use of "Tomorrow Never Knows" sets up a distancing between Don and Roger as they face the new world. They've both now been exposed (in some form or fashion) to The Book of…
Came to post this, basically, but you said it better than I would've. You don't get any pop (few things jump out at you), but you get a very affected "depth of field" experience that I actually enjoyed in the context of a comic book movie. Nothing to recommend it over 2D, but if you're not anti-3D on principle it's a…
I actually thought "She's got some 'splainin' to do!" Subtle, but unmistakable reference.
I'm on track three, with no prior Spiritualized experience. I like it so far, but it's reminding me how much I miss Beulah.
Just to check expectations… I read it immediately after "Bossypants" and was disappointed. It's a fairly compelling read, but she's simply not as good a writer as Tina Fey and some parts of the book noticeably drag. Interesting backstory though, and she's surprisingly self-aware about her persona and process (though…
Repressed desire for Thomas?
Paying 9.99 for MOG on my phone as an experiment after my external hard drive failed (again). Was broken-hearted to find that NEITHER "Friends of P" nor "Natural One" are available through Spotify or MOG (maybe not on any of them). Wrecked my 90s nostalgia trip.
I like how your reply completely ignores the corollary. Just because someone picks up an instrument and writes some songs doesn't make you entitled to listen to their music. If the .99 or 9.99 (or .037 if you use Spotify, et al.) is such a tremendous burden on your life, how bout you just do without?
Simple, yet efficient. Like the body itself. I laughed far too loudly at this.
He also cites the notion of punk as its own form of retro pretty explicitly in "Rip it Up," if I remember correctly.
Whoooooosh…

Garish? Seriously? Garish?

A criminally unwatched film, but I can't hear "Time" by The Chambers Brothers without seeing Zelda Harris float away in "Crooklyn"
