Sam Peckinpah was an unholy terror as a man, and his later films (Killer Elite, Convoy, Ostermann Weekend) are garbled wrecks self-sabotaged by his alcoholism, but "Ride the High Country" and "The Wild Bunch" are masterpieces. Bloody Sam came in to his own at the tail end of the the long cycle of classic westerns,

Yellowbelly, where you gonna run to now?

I totally agree. I guess the fans just like all the lip service he provides, like having tribbles pop up and crap, while giving them close to nothing that is new, and tarnishing what the old series accomplished. No big ideas about man's noble purpose to explore the universe, no existential angst beyond Pike's death,

ZanMo, I catch your drift. If the show wasn't at least a little diverting why bother at all? Like most mediocre pop art you have to take your pleasures where you can find them or do something more interesting with your life. I agree with Sonia that this show has gravely miscalculated the possible interest we can have in Alan's character, since he seems to the designated voice of reason, which in Helix's insane world means he's boring. Julia is the natural focus of this story, and as I continue to watch this thing I can't help but imagine

What's Latin for a show with nowhere to go, despite its tremendous popularity and pretence of thematic heft?

Washington D.C. in 2013 isn't exactly South Korea in 1968, but when has that ever stopped a preposterous thriller from being entertaining? I love the idea of a president signing a new assault rifle ban with bandaged knuckles. The exact same pen would be jammed into the terrorist chief's neck at the film's climax, and

I totally concur, Fuck you. The score does a fantastic job of underscoring the dread behind much of the violence on this show. LoDuca's fusion of freaky trumpets and rock instrumentation reminds me of Morricone. Now if only there was a jew's harp solo, I would be in heaven.
