I can vouch for that as a British guy who failed to score in either New York or LA (but had some success elsewhere in North America).

Yup, the TV show that played the undubbed Eidelweiss pointed that out, and said his success on Cyrano meant it was pretty much 'case closed' on any aspersions on his singing ability. I guess his singing improved in the years between Sound of Music and his Tony win.

I was shocked last week to find out that's not Plummer singing in the above clip. He was dubbed by another singer. It was on a TV show – they showed the clip with Plummer's voice on instead and it wasn't quite as good.
