Well, it seems like a lot of late night comedy revolves around making fun of foreigners who don't speak English for a first language so they don't sound as articulate as us. Letterman had some Pakistani deli owners, Conan has La Bamba, Kimmel has Guillermo. My dad used to justify Letterman's cruelty because it

Agree with you and I'm not one to defend T VdW but Leno insults celebrities in a lukewarm way as well. When you think about it everyone except Craig Furgeson (who refused to do Brittany Spears rehab jokes a few years back because he could relate to alcoholism) will insult celebrities in the monologue. I remember one

You guys don't just call him Questlove?

Yeah, but Conan overuses that shtick A LOT. Conan breaking the fourth wall and detaching himself from a skit is fine in moderation but he does it nearly every single night.

Letterman has that problem more than Conan. Conan is quite educated and can have a really good discussion. Especially when Conan is with an intelligent guest. Letterman sometimes sells me on it.

I think for a while Conan turned into Letterman since 2009-2010 since his comedy is fueled a lot on bitterness that he got bumped by Leno and he wasn't updating too much when he got on TBS. I haven't caught it lately.

Hey, I'll be rooting for people who read braille only in Rio? I rooted for the blind athletes in Beijing, Vancouver, London and Sochi as well. I kid, I kid.

I guess what I would say is that Bode himself knew the reporter from their days on the racing circuit together when she was formerly a skier and he went out of his way to defend her.

Thank you. I was actually on a ski racing team in college. My dad skied for his university in college and I had been skiing really fast down the mountain since I was a kid so I joined my college's ski racing team (it was a club sport) but translating being really in control on skis and fast doesn't translate well to

is she still as attractive as she used to be? I didn't see 88 olympics but I was at the Calgary Olympic Park and Museum and remember she was just really hot in an exotic way

A figure skating controversy without a formal protest is most dissatisfying from an audience perspective. Like an unresolved plot line or unresolved sexual tension between two lead characters (for the record, I am not a shipper, that's just the analogy I can think of). I'd love a formal protest, those things get kind

Pedantic notes are my favorite kind of notes, keep it up

I'm not a big fan of Sonia, she's not particularly twitter-friendly to people outside of AV Club staff, but it's a decent review she wrote here. Wait, Yuna won a gold, what's the big deal. Repeating is very rare, and besides for your thesis to have klout, the 15-year-old Russian would have had to have won

I think Sonia is the first reviewer to say that NBC is flat-out botching the Olympics and she's definitely in the minority of most people I'm talking to about it, although she has an interesting point that women's hockey could transition to being the glamour sport of the olympics rather than figure skating, but i

Does anyone else root for the home country though. I mean those people suffered enormous costs for this whole thing, I'd feel bad if they didn't win some big prizes like this

I only watch this once every four years (and occasionally see the X games) so frankly I'm glad to see more cross than last week. Can't wait to watch the replay

They said on the broadcast that she's one of the 3 or 4 highest paid female athletes in the world

I think you can enjoy it without thinking about the judging too much, to me it's like watching an ice capades show. Besides you already know about the results 9 hours in advance. If I was watching speed skating and someone crossed the finish line after his competitor and won it, that would certainly take me out of the

Katarina Witt, the famous figure skater of the 80's, was in the audience or commentating?

so at what point is this going to explode into a full scandal a la the 2002 figure skating competition when the Russians beat the Candians?
