I actually don't care about the Levi plot lines and am mostly fast fowarding through them. More interested in the work stuff

I would recommend watching this show. Don't mistake it for a comedy. It's a light drama. And a very insightful, easily watchable, and relatable one at that. The symbolism is rich and profound, the show has a unique voice, and I think few shows tackle the bureaucracies of the workplace like this show

NICE piece of insight there. you've got (analytical) game, kid!

I can relate to that. She's a fish-out-of-water. My junior year of college, I transferred to a place I didn't want to be after being arrested and going through a lot of life-changing experiences and being in the working world for a year, and just found it ridiculous that my peers (although typical college students)

Which brings us to an interesting question: How would play Amy if Laura Dern didn't create the show and was out of the running. Most studios would have vetoed her since she's 44 years old and hasn't been in a lot lately? I think few people could balance the comic inclinations of the character. Maybe Amanda Peete, Sara

Yes, she should won an Emmy over Tina Fey, Amy Poehler, and Melissa McCarthy. Haven't yet seen Nurse Jackie so can't speak to her vs. Edie Falco

Absolutely! It's got lots of Mike White, Sara Silverman and Joan Cusack in probably they're best character roles (although In and Out is hard to top) and definitely is a sweet comedy

It's always interesting what people who write the show or direct choose to cast themselves as. Roman Polanski just played a thug in Chinatown, Kevin Smith plays the silent partner of a duo that popped up in all three of his first movies and were largely unrelated to the plot, Mike White played the schlubby substitute

Yeah, but the show should flesh out better just how much Amy helped out Krista in the beginning so we can more appropriately take sides. If Amy did pluck her from obscurity and truly mentored her when no one else would, Krista owes Amy a lot and is morally deficient for stepping over her on the way to the top. On the

I just don't understand it. Didn't their friendship end a few episodes back at the baby showeR?

The fact that you don't know how to react is what's great about the show. It straddles the line between is this a good or bad outcome really well

I thought it was a wonderful case of a shifting loyalties. First you see the Big Brother aspect of the company and hate Dougie and root for Amy, and then you just realize it's bureaucracy and it would just be a pain to make a complaint, so you're not exactly sympathetic to Dougie but you realize what a pain Amy could

I think that's the most interesting thing about the show is that Amy can really go both ways at the same time. You can see her as obnoxious for politicizing Krista's party but you can equally see her as just trying to do good around her and being stuck in an unforgiving world.

seems like a waste of Jonathan Demme's time unless he's just doing it for a paycheck. TV directors get no creative freedom

Yeah "Up All Night" is surely the pantheon of guest starring gigs. Tim Meadows, Maura Tierney and Dan Castanella are big names but they were only on for one episode.

@avclub-4d94a3a3e4a25d485ceeb7ccbe60f822:disqus you could be overthinking it all, but again, that's the point of tvtropes.org and avclub discussion boards so I can't fault you there.
