Mindy, the character's, not as cool, authoritative or charismatic to pull off lines like that and just be a sitcom lead in general. Maybe Tina Fey, Julia-Louis Dreyffus,  Amy Poehler even Christina Applegate or Courtney Cox

Although honestly: what high school student voluntarily reads a complex novel? The assigned reading those english classes throw at you is enough to ween you off reading as a hobby. Also, wtf was up with her going to a gynecologist in the first place during what was clearly school hours and then saying, but I can't

I wonder if someone who's seen only episode 1 and episode 7 would react to  the Josh character. He's kind of been retconned as a good guy by now, but he was pretty douchey when he picked her up at a nightclub. He was basically like "hey, i'm rich, here are my famous clients. let's sleep together"

interesting point,  but it wouldn't have hurt to introduce her earlier or give a couple more lines of exposition

Yeah, I agree. Sloppy episode in many ways. 1) you definitely have to introduce a character like Sophia beforehand to make us care about a plot on her 2) A gynecologist like Mindy should just have a standard procedure when a teen comes to her office. Wanting to meet the boyfriend and judge him isn't just an

An interesting perspective. I don't see any general sort of progression one way or another because it's only 7 episodes and they were probably all created in a block. I'd argue that it's always been a romantic comedy. I don't think that we were ever meant to not be engaged in Mindy's struggle. I don't know whether it

Yikes! you pay that much attention to an AV Club Reviewer's Grade? I value an AVC reviewer's opinion but don't dismiss the show entirely because of a grade? I usually think what is written is more important than the grade at the end. Hey, I've been published in Mental Floss Magazine and cracked.com for TV writing and

i think holiday eps. are generally make-it-or-break-it if it's not a traditional family like this one whether workplace comedy or group of friends comedy. the thing is that the a-plot didn't really feel like thanksgiving but just a regular dinner party. was there people going around the room saying things they were
