You're completely wrong and here's why; Man Of Steel could have been a movie about anyone by the end.
 It was a big budget Independence Day style alien invasion movie, only with Superman (or a close facsimile in it).
 For it to be a Superman and comic movie it has to feel like it could only be about Superman.

The airliner bit worked because it at least tried to make the physics work somewhat.
Superman grabbing a wing at that speed would cause it to snap in half. 
That's important because like in the Fleischer cartoons it shows Superman is 'human' and does fuck up sometimes.
