No trouble at all. D'Angelo even returned to reprise Lumpkin in 2007 for "Papa Don't Leech". Hettie Mae was a different character. Actors play 'older' all the time. Anika Noni Rose (43) recently did an excellent turn as 'Rita LaFleur" (70-ish) for "Gone Abie Gone". And D'Angelo was 40 when she first played Lumpkin.

Literary spin-off rights have reverted to the Coens during the years since that effort, so they did have to sign off on it and - you can bet - agree not to bash it. But they still get to do nothing and collect the passive payments, which is still a sweet gig.
