Indeed, I commend it.
Ok, I'll try:
Belated Happy Birthday! - should the question stay the same then may the number 42 prove meaningful to you!
Hands down favourite Stone Roses track - so utterly infectious.
Tom Waits upvote.
Apart from the obligatory Dokken upvote, Pig Destroyer, great track.
Some Girls – Hot Piss
Negative Approach – Whatever I do
(Admit to skipping tracks here, because stuff my kids listen to came up, among that an actually not bad track by phenomenally named German 90ies pop punk band “Die Braut haut ins Auge” (The bride hits (sb) into the eye))
Converge – Precipice
Kylesa – Said and Done
Bob…
Cool, thanks for that story! Costello seemed genuinely intrigued (to say the least) by Punk and Ska, as he also produced The Specials.
And I think his "(What's so funny 'bout) peace, love and understanding" has more than a little punk edge. As does "Big Tears".
Actually, I got lucky, and found it on vinyl, second hand in good enough condition, and it returns to the turntable regularly and sometimes stays there for days.
But I looked up re-issues/how the other BAD releases exist/are stocked, and it looks pretty thin.
Don't really know how present they are in streaming services.
Why, thank you for posting these!
The Jones one really looks like a turn off, but the Clash bio is on the list. I read the Strummer bio "Redemption Song" a while ago and found it a good enough read.
Mysteries of Paris sounds intriguing because of its radical realism and social criticism (Marx and Engels themselves were fans…) and I do want to take a look it out some time, but Sue also figures in Eco's Prague Cemetary (recommended btw) because of the rampant antisemitc stereotypes he apparently peddled/maybe held…
Wrote about my belated Big Audio Dynamite discovery last week, and I want to reiterate that they are really SO GOOD!, Megatop Phoenix more or less soundtracked my week. Also, Mick Jones is ever-ever growing in my appreciation. Deeply love Strummer and the Clash for the bigger part of my life now, but what I long…
Fuck yeah, Negative Approach!!! Seriously, there is no match to their ferocity and Brannon's bellowing. I was too young to listen to them in the Eighties, but Total Recall was (and still is) scripture to me since the early Nineties, on a par with Minor Threat.
There's really never not a good time to listen to punk, but now it's practically de rigueur to do so. (And, as always, Nazi punks, fuck off.)
But who's "him"? I hope, the New York Post does not mean him?!? (Afraid to look it up, tho)
Reminds me of disgustingly titled, only ever to be ignored in hopes it goes away into…
Or that LibLyotard clown.
You'll do great!
A colleague and friend gave me a fountain pen as a present totally out of the blue today.
This was a reaction to a couple of immensely stressful weeks (that are followed by differently stressful weeks right now) at work and the (true) story I had told her recently that I had lost two fountain pens at work practically…
Lonerism by Tame Impala, specifically Side A, which I just put the needle on again and again.
The opener is so drastically good, with its manic drums, the intense repeat whisper and then the Beatles-/Harrison-esque melodic development washing over this rhythmic bed. I don't mind/care about the nostalgia aspect that TI…
I'll agree on the "silly" aspect to a certain extent - of course it is inherent to the practice and it has been made fun of, because it's so easy to see - I just half remember that there are scenes in Women on the verge of a nervous breakdown that parody dubbing, aren't there? And I think there's tons more. Still,…
