Soundgarden Revisionism
is this where I officially announce to the internet the terms of my Soundgarden reappraisal? I hereby reject the basic tenents of this review, as Down On The Upside is clearly the best Soundgarden album. They honed their sound to a tight, riffy mainstream rock, leaving behind the sluggish

it feels good to admit this
New Adventures in Hi Fi is insanely overrated, and nothing more than a mediocre album at best.

Black Swan: a comedy
I found it hilarious and have been told that whatever humor I saw was unintentional. It is a comedy though, yes?

… and now I look like Jesus and I'm the handsomest man in the world! Suck it Franco.
Natalie Portman is perfect and I want to protect her.

for me, the best transition was when my download finished and hijacked the media player, so that Give Up The Ghost suddenly cut to The Cleveland Show theme. Sublime.
That theme is a better piece of music than anything on this album.

what the hell, Nigel?
there's clipping and editing clicks all over the drum tracks. That's my main impression on first listen. also that it sounds even more like a Radiohead Frankenstein than Hail To The Thief.

LOLita
I'm pretty sure its the funniest book I've read. To my appalled shame, it had me rooting for Humbert Humbert and his vile plans, and cursing Lolita each time she foiled them, the wanton wench - I mean, the poor little child. The brilliance of it is that is messes with the reader's moral perspective

I dutifully swallowed whatever the english music press threw at me at the time, and hung on until the bitter end: Pygmalion and Tarantula. Beady Eye looks a bit like Andy Bell's Hurricane #2.

I have not yet read this article…
… but I've looked through the pages and seen no mention of Spiritualized, Ride or Slowdive and this is making me MOPEY!!!

M. Night Shyamalan cameos in an M. Night Shyamalan film directed by M. Night Shyamalan.

Piranha 3D
The guy who directed Haute Tension making an R-rated 3D piranha film with record-breaking amounts of on-set fake blood and such extraordinary levels of gratuitous nudity that there was even a promised slo mo underwater nude ballet? It was already my film of the year before I read all the gracious reviews

Alien Lanes
Twenty years of critical spurting has whitewashed the mundane reality: a truly great opening track, then steadily decreasing quality over the next 27 minutes, with occasional flashes of melody. Insanely overrated!

This guy is all filler
… and I'm sick of buying his albums after reading rave reviews, only to find one or two decent tracks buried amongst boring and depressing glunk. He sounds very legit and 70's songwritery, but he wouldn't have made anywhere near this kind of critical impact if he was actually releasing records

if you do, just make sure that it's not mid 90's Brooke Shields telemovie Stalking Laura, while tripping on mushrooms.

Check your emails, Billy!
… I've been waiting for a reply about that vacant bass player position for months now.
I haven't seen it yet, but is it true that Natalie Portman dances to a funk reggae performance of the Zwan album in the new Aronofsky film?

the Upside of producing it themselves was that at no point on the album did anyone make them go into a "First it steals! Your mind and then! Your / First! It steals! Your mind! And then! Your! / etc" -styled hoedown.
I think the angsty tension was good for them and really clarified their sound, and in the interests of

Everybody listen to me!
It has taken 13 years, but finally a platform exists for my opinion on Down On The Upside: its a better album than Superunknown. Tighter, more focused songwriting, more variation, (slightly) less filler, and most glaringly obvious: faster!
All … the… songs… ooooonnnnn…. Doowwn On…. the …. up….

Here are my Wesley Puns
(ahem) "from Blade to Shank!" and "Drop The Soap Zone". I'm pretty happy with the second one but the first needs work.

Ayup.
this book looks so good it might knock me outta my Keds!

when I saw that rating I felt I could finally accept the dull disappointment I refused to acknowledge at the time.
