Brienne IS my favorite non-Arya character, so I found AFFC to be a major pleasant surprise. Plus most of the best regular characters (Arya & Sansa especially) do get POVs anyway, so I dunno what people were complaining about.

Catcher In the Rye improves upon reading it as an adult, since perspective adds so much to one's view of Holden. Which doesn't necessarily ruin your analogy because Donnie Darko improves as well. What doesn't improve is Drew Barrymore's performance.
