@ eponymous - are you referring to the theatrical version or the directors cut? because to me, the directors cut IS the good movie lurking somewhere in the original TMP. Or at least it's quite a bit closer than the theatrical version, even if it's not quite there.

Off-topic, but what the hell… Star Trek : TMP and Star Trek: Generations are both good movies.
Everyone else starts off-topic threads around here (DS9, I'm talking to you), and I enjoyed watching each of these in the last week or so, so I thought I'd take a moment to stand up for them, given how much crap they take on

The audience is not necessarily more savvy or demanding of higher quality now than then, but I do think that the we're more sensitive now to when we're being coerced. We've been bombarded by so much polictical and commercial spin, advertisement, product placement, etc. that we've constantly on the look out for any

Hendricks is without a doubt top-notch gin and tonic making material. Citadel is perhaps a bit more flavorful, but to me it's a little harsher than Hendricks. And Bombay Sapphire will always do in a pinch. But Hendricks is my go-to gin when I get the hankering for a gin and tonic. If I've got a cucumber on hand, all

As a long-time Broncos fan I was incredibly hyped to see Sharpe head to TV. needless to say I was quite the disappointment.

let's not confuse an announcer on-field heroics with they in the booth incompetence. The list of great players who are annoying, stupid, or just plain clueless as analysts is much, much longer than former players who are actually good in the booth.

I love the coach's tape. With the advent of HDTV, I'd be happy to watch a whole game with nothing but the coach's camera (and preferably little to nothing from the announcers). It replicates the advantage of watching the game from the stadium - you get to watch the whole play develop, and you can focus on a certain

claitoc - you're absolutely right. I love starting the game late, just to fast forward through the commercials and assorted bullshit. but this year I'm starting three Broncos players (don't laugh - I've got their Team QB, Knowshon Moreno, and Brandon Lloyd, none of whom I picked up higher than the 4th round). So it's

The only good thing I have to say about Theisman is reprinting his infamous quote:

"Football is like a chess match with pieces who have to slam into each other. Every piece has a damn hard job to do and every play can have a surprising, explosive result."

Home town announcers would be an interesting idea for football coverage. Or possibly announcers that had a certain "beat", like reporters - you could have a team that primarily called games from each division, in addition to the #1 and #2 teams that call the nationally broadcast games. It wouldn't work perfectly, as

actually, I find myself preffering that the office not go so well so we can get more hatecasts!

The comments ARE ZMF's regular column.

It's a little annoying that Avildsen seemed to steal the ending celebration freeze frame from Rocky. But it works in both cases, so I guess you can't blame a guy for going back to the well.

seriously - Ochocinco is awesome now? I might believe that if he wasn't playing second fiddle to a guy who's years past his prime.

@wraekehi - I had exactly the same reaction to Myagi's story. I think as a kid I had a vague idea of what the internment camps were, but I really didn't have a clue at the time. I think for a while was confused as to which side he was fighting for. somehow I had the idea that he fought for the japanese, but it's OK

@ mondegreen - I'm guessing I'm not the only one hear who finds it incredibly annoying that the dumbass managed to change his name to "eightfive" instead of "eighty-five". Seriously, is he that fucking ignorant, or did he choose a spelling that doesn't make any goddamn sense just because it sounds better? Either way

Zeek and the art teacher were both wrong, although the art teacher was definitely more wrong IMO. Zeek should've trusted his wife and played it a bit cooler than that. Just showing up and introducing himself probably would've made the point. But the art teacher was being a bitch by ratting out Zeek. Look - he's the

Damn!, I forgot about Nemesis.

hey, don't forget "Remo Williams: The Adventure Begins" that worked out alright, didn't it?
