Troi was pretty much useless if you ask me - aside from the aforementioned Romulan episode I can't think of much that she's atually done in the series. sure, her character's usually involved in stuff, and there's been plots involving her, but when did her character actually drive the plot forward or do something

The new bridge
I didn't get a chance to catch this one in syndication, but judging from some you tube clips, they really go out of their way to show just how different the bridge is - particularly one long shot from behind picard that shows how much space. there is between the captain's chair, the conn / helm

The Last Starfighter definitely deserves a mention.

I'll never understand the love for "The Princess Bride" like any american child of the '80's, I've watched it untold dozens of times throughout my life and I've never liked it. truth be told, I actively detest it, and always have as long as i can remember. Something about it's deliberate cheesyness just rubbed me the

on the topic of 80's FX - one childhood favorite is The Last Starfighter - I just picked that up on Blu-ray and the CGI looks remarkably good (for early 80's CGI of course) I was expecting the Blu-ray to reveal the crappiness of the effects, but I was pleasantly surprised. And my son, who's grown up in a total;u CGI,

GoldenEye is still the quintessential multi-player game IMO. Many a drunken, stoned night was spent arguing over allegations of babysitting the body armor.

one more vote for "The Twits" I don't think I'd ever read a book with such unappealing, negative characters doing such horrible things to each other by that point in my child hood, so it was a bit shocking. but it's funny enough that thinking about it now makes me want to go dig it out of whatever box it's been in the

Go ahead and give TAS a chance - there are some suggestions for good eps on the last thread. at 24 minutes each you can get a good idea of what it's all about in an evening.

I'll make you a deal - I'll start calling it "The 'Zon" when you start buying your batteries and wires from "The Shack"….

Yeah, I was a bit surprised to hear the "Logic offers a serenity humans seldom experience" quote, but I think it works in both YY and Star Trek '09. YY is a top-notch Trek story, regardless of it's format.

agreed. I've played a couple of episodes for the kids while I was making dinner this week, and they work just as well if you're only listening to them. That, and they're several levels above Spongebob re-runs in tolerability.

That's an interesting idea… as they are, TAS episodes come off almost like radio dramas. new animation could really add something vital.

my main problem with "farpoint" is Dr McCoy's ridiculous cameo - why did they feel the need to include a random TOS character in the pilot? I understand that's the standard MO for a spinoff, but c'mon, it's got "Star Trek" in it's name - we're going to give it a chance whether you dress DeForest Kelley up in horrible

I enjoyed the episodes I watched this week more than I though I would. I was impressed that they were willing to take on issues like Euthanasia (Yesteryear) and the idea that mankind might outgrow it's need for religion (How Sharper than a Serpant's Tooth) in a children's show. The writing really is pretty good here.

And count yourself lucky if you get that!

That's a good analysis. And it makes sense that they'd call back to the wholes Assistant Regional Manager / Assistant to the Regional Manager joke to underscore how the relationship has changed over the years. I doubt they'll go anywhere with it though. they seem to have been struggling with how far they take story

The dump was horrible, IMO. I'm fine with all of the extra-office excursions the show takes, even though they occasionally stretch believability. After all, it's just a TV show. but the dump was just ridiculous, both in terms of the plot and the crappy green-screen execution.

"why we fight" was a good episode, but it was so bleak it was hard to enjoy (not that bleak is inappropriate given the subject matter). Personally, "Day of Days" was my favorite. the way they systematically take out the german artillery was pretty sweet.

You might want to try a little harder if you're going to troll around these boards.

@gargantuan - agreed. the writers even said as much once, IIRC. They were working on both scripts simultaneously and later reflected that "All Good Things" was the better story. On the big screen, that could've been a really good movie.
