Back in the day everyone knew it was a comedic "Stalag 17". Hardly worth mentioning.

The Nazi Party had its own military organisation - the SS. The German Army, Navy and Air Force were not "Nazi" military, they were simply the German military. The fact that they took orders from Hitler doesn't make them "Nazi" any more than the US military is the Democratic Party military because it takes orders from…
Here's another layer to the show - Klink, Shultz and Burkhalter are portrayed by German/Austrian Jewish actors who had to flee the Nazis in the late 30s.
Part of the reason that Hogan's Heroes could have been made when it was is that there was still very little national consciousness of the Holocaust as a singular horror in the US in the 1960s. The usual TV/Hollywood depiction of WWII in those days was that the war was a simple story of brave Americans and English…
Banner and Askin (Burkhalter) were both Viennese Jews who fled Austria after the Anschluss. Klemperer was a German Jew from a famous musical family. His cousin - Victor Klemperer was married to a goy and survived the war in Dresden, of all places. His diary of his life under Nazi rule ("I will bear witness until…
Klink and Schultz were not Nazi party members. Klink was a career officer and Schultz presumably a career NCO. Hence not "evil" on the show like the nasty SS guys who would make cameos, just stupid.
Hell, I still haven't got around to "Freaks and Geeks". Maybe in 15 years I'll catch up with "Enlightened".
Well, how did it work out between you and Quinn?
Come on, Angel murdered Jenny Calendar! Kicking his ass is the least Buffy needed to do.
I think she's arguably better than Buffy. Buffy was just handed mystical superpowers after all. Cordelia really had to make a conscious choice to sacrifice her life and dreams for a higher cause.
But when did Big Love recover? I don't think it did.
Yes, the Wesley character arc from S3 of Buffy through S4 of Angel is a great story. The problem with Angel S5 is that Wesley gets shunted aside for the Spike-Angel bromance.
I agree. My question is could the Potential arc have been saved if the show had had the budget to hire decent actresses for those roles? Nah, probably not. I always thought that deep down "Buffy" was supposed to be a tragedy about an exceptional girl who was destined to live and die alone no matter what - which was…
Opera_Punk - just in retrospect. I liked BSG a lot while it was going on, but I wasn't happy with the direction of the last few seasons. It definitely left me with an "is that all there is?" kind of feeling. Maybe I burdened the show with too many expectations.
Yes, you're right. Make it a triple feature.
Who are those people? In my universe that sounds like a fairly standard opinion.
A great double feature is to watch this together with "X: The Unheard Music". LA in the early 80s had an amazing music scene.
Agree that season 2 was not as good as S1 or S3, but it was hardly a "bum season".
Good call. A surprising recovery towards the end.
Season One of Angel was bad, the show steadily improved from there.
