In Nu Who, they love to contrive clever ways to get rid of companions permanently, and somewhat tragically, but without actually killing them off. Rory and Amy transported into the past, Rose trapped in a parallel universe, Donna's memory wiped. (What happens to Martha? I forget.) We're assured that they're safe and

I love it when the Daleks scream "EXPLAIN!" It's become one of my catchphrases…"you're ten minutes late…EXPLAIN! EXPLAIN!"

I've done some dark shit for Klondike Bars in my time…

100% PEARS!

I find your Pepper lifestyle a little too fast and loose for my taste, thank you very much.

I feel sorry for people who picked up all their moronic catchphrases from the internet, rather than commercials and TV shows. You sunk my battleship!

That was a weird ad. Doesn't it imply that using Chiffon margarine is a sort of black magic, which Mother Nature will punish you for?

Why, yes. They are Bugle Boy jeans.

Calgon, take me away! (Before I murder my children.)

That was a pretty effective ad campaign. Without it, it would never occur to me that "ring around the collar" was a problem that I had to keep an eye on.

You, alright? I learned it by watching you!

I always hated Pearl Jam. Nirvana was a tricky one: I loved the first two albums, and then turned against them when they became bigger than Jesus. The grunge craze completely grossed me out at the time…but that is, admittedly, not a very good reason to not like their music, which was great.

There were a number of big 80s acts that I was prejudiced against for years. I just associated them with general 80s cheesiness (synth, sax, and bad haircuts), which I was too cool for. In my old age, though, I've opened my mind and grown to love them (if not their 80s output, then their other stuff). Here I mean

I'm not surprised at all that you can't get into Doctor Who. In fact, it always blows me away that Doctor Who has such mainstream popularity in the UK, when I've always thought of it as a quirky cult phenomenon. Even the Queen is a Doctor Who fan, apparently. I watched it as a nerdy kid in the US, and didn't know

I love the show, but can't read the books (got halfway through the first one). Martin's prose just drive me nuts. I have the same issue with Tolkien…both are great world-builders, but terrible novelists.

I think Stanhope is quite funny, but there's a lot of sophistry in his act: he somehow makes really dumb arguments (like the seatbelt thing) sound convincing through humor.

I don't think anyone hates prog rock for its fantasy themes. People hate prog rock because it doesn't rock.

There was a Q&A called "Pop Culture Dealbreakers" that covered this theme. It was a little disturbing, frankly. Lots of statements along the lines of "If you don't like [fill in the blank], then I don't want to know you." I hope everyone was exaggerating; if not, that's pretty sad.

It's a tricky choice, because the Stormcloaks are xenophobes, while the Imperials are, well, imperialists. There's no PC option.
