Indeed but theres plenty of sincere stuff put out there would be pretty offensive to some people. For instance say the song 'Bodies' by The Sex Pistols, alot of people would have a serious moral issue with that and have attacked Lydon personally for it.

Well United are bigger rivals with Liverpool than City. In reality Citys rivalry with United is only in its infancy because United never gave a toss about City until Mansour came along.

You may as well have just wrote "it sucks" because there is no objective criticism there. You don't have to like Girls but claiming everything about it is terrible is just lazy.

What about when the art has a specific message that we abhor? An extreme example would be if the art is saying "racism is great" shouldn't we then criticise the artist?

I hate U2 because I live in Ireland where they are everywhere and treated like gods. Worse still most of my friends absolutely worship them and will regularly play them at me.

Heroes was exactly like that for me. The first half a season was good so I kept watching regardless. I was the same with Glee until very recently and I'm still watching the Office despite it being horrible now. I do still enjoy the Big Bang though.
