I don't remember…but not me.
I don't remember…but not me.
Heads up, Shout Factory released the complete series of Mary Hartman last week.
I was this close to e-mailing an editor to slip in a The Heart, She Holler reference. But I've mentioned MHMH in everything I've written about THSH, so I let it go.
It comes with 10 random episodes of Fernwood 2 Night as well, but a lot of those are on Youtube in decent shape.
That's why I said Mad Men's postmodern breaks, like the bracingly self-conscious "Waldorf Stories," for instance.
Luckily you can still get a sense of that befuddlement reading Youtube comments for the clips!
I remember a 30 Rock commentary where Tina Fey said something along the lines of "We can't hold this shot too long, we have to cut back and forth because this is a comedy," just as a given. I get the idea, the snappy rhythms, but it does lead to a lot of shows that would be almost as funny if they were just actors…
So true. To bring in the above comment, you'd think musicals like Glee/Smash/SOML would have meaningful choreography, but they mostly just move pieces around a board at will. Hannibal/Breaking Bad are all about power blocking. That's not the only way to fly—Enlightened or Rectify, pointedly shows that aren't about…
You make that sound like a bad thing.
Aww!
Just sticking with this year, I'd add Rectify, Enlightened, Game of Thrones, and The Bridge. Sometimes Justified, The Americans, Revenge and The Good Wife.
That last screencap brings it home. It's so rare to see such wide shots on TV, especially in interiors. The choreography of Hannibal and Will in chairs is more precise and stylized than any TV musical.
I'm nobody. I just sometimes have answers to questions.
Just two of the four articles have had more than one show (Comedy Central, Sundance), the other two being Scandal and The Americans. And if I'm not mistaken there's only one more. We cheated big-time, but the cheats are mostly front-loaded.
Same, thanks for putting that on my radar. Can't wait now!
All the more incredible that they totally sidelined him in season four in favor of four impoverished young black kids played by newcomers.
Nicki is my favorite, but I'd rather the show do away with the concept of a main character, or at least let the position revolve. If the show wants to be democratic koombayah dramedy, shake up the cast hierarchy.
I'm pulling for a different anchor character each season, but I don't have much faith in Jenji Kohan in particular to pull something like that off. My guess is more Piper, which is fine by me (love that character and performance) but awfully unimaginative.
I think I would get a stern e-mail if I answered that question.
Those are both Adult Swim…or are you talking about their reception on this site in general? Haven't seen China, IL but I still love The Heart, She Holler.
