I get the sequels being better than originals. Gameplay is one of those things that often gets improved through iteration. For example Assasin's Creed 2 greatly improves on the original and comes closer to the promise of the concept.

Here's the thing that in my mind separates the Before Watchmen project from all the tired counter-examples that have been thrown around: I find it hard to believe that Darwyne Cooke ran up to the editors of DC and said "I have this great idea for a Watchmen comic."

The first scene was so cheap-looking, especially compared to the rest of the series, that it really made me afraid for the show.  It's very difficult to be engrossed in a show where the weapons are clearly plungers wrapped in tin foil.

Is this really that surprising? There was nothing else on last night. I watched old Doctor Who episodes instead cause I prefer my History Channel with aliens.
