BTW. The song playing during one of the montages is one of the most popular songs in Japan right now. Terribly addictive. Stranger music video than anything I've ever seen http://www.youtube.com/watc…
I knew nothing about Miyazaki films unitl about 3 months ago. Since I have watched them all. Worth the investment.
The only one I felt like I really missed in the mix was Nausicaa. One of my top 3 Miyazaki films.

I also read somewhere saying that the tree was too convenient. What did you expect, its a giant tree between the two portals. It has to be pretty remarkable. I am also sure that Korra's astral projection had something to do with harmonic convergence. Unspeakable spiritual energy abounds once every 10,000 years.
It was tophs ability to sense the earth within the metal that made her uniquely capable to inventing the technique. Its a rare skill and the follow up comics explain that only certain earthbenders are capable of learning.
Its just manipulating plants by bending the water inside them. Katara then learns how to rip the water out of plants which is a prefered method.
That was actually the original concept for the show. Aang was going to be frozen for 1000 years or something like that. and Momo was a robot lemur. Appa was a polar bear dog
