We Are Standing Sill

The sophomorism (word… coined!) is like 40% of the point.  While Lena has obviously had a lot of quick lessons on directing and screenwriting and such, from an emotional maturity standpoint, she's almost an outsider artist(*).

What I haven't seen address is: was her portrayal of OCD at all believable?  I think Lena is a mixed bag as an actress.  She's great at scenes that involve faking an emotion to do a bad job of hiding another emotion, and that's not easy, but at other things… eh…

Do you think Alec Baldwin would do a worse job than the current executives if they just called him up and told him to start Monday with no prep?

Just looking for a serious thread to throw out Waiting for the Barbarians and everything else by Cavafy.  Only book of poetry I've ever read cover-to-cover in one sitting.

It stops being appealing.

But duuuuude, we have to look at the UGLY one, why can't we see the HAWT one!?!?! It's like, for REALISM, dawg.

She doesn't owe us her tits.  How many HBO actors show their dicks? Not many.  Yet in most sexual situations I've been in, if you'd set a camera up in the room, you'd be seeing some of Little Mr. Standing Still.

The Wire is the best show about Sociology, The Sopranos is the best show about psychology.  If you like plots and crime, The Wire is better, if you like personal drama, (but still plots and crime) The Sopranos is better.

@vicomtepicabia, nope that's pretty much the way the whole media works.  It's pretty much the same for upcoming wars.

It's not the only show that allows its characters to get by on questionable means of support.  Friends all lived in a lot more comfort in the early seasons with much less believable stories as to how they paid the bills.

So… like… did you even watch the episode?

I think the charges of tokenism are misplaced.  Lena is engaging in fantasy via casting.

I have an inherent dislike for any product of Hollywood that is that critical of normal people living out in suburbia.  That movie is an overwrought glass house.  The Ice Storm is everything that movie could have been but didn't try hard enough to be.

And a "Come On!" or two

And a "Come On!" or two

There is no cinematic gold quite like a suffering Richard Dreyfuss.

Nah, the US is *always* killing people somewhere.  Any time there's any scandal it will look like we're trying to distract with bombs.  It's a coincidence.  We're always bombing somebody.

You're an idiot.
