And… if you were paying attention to Marvel comics in the 70s…..
Killraven, man. Killraven. THERE's your War of the World's sequel.

What I've learned from this is that Mark Wahlberg can't tell the difference between chicken and steak. How then could he have differntiated between highjackers and passengers. Would have been a bloodbath up there.

It's outtakes, though, not him. The outtakes from that Ang Lee movie convinced me he was the Hulk.

Toby Tyler and Katie Perry in I Kissed Mr. Stubbs

The Langella one had a couple of unfortunately memorable bits, such as the wiggly eyes he used (the 70s hair wasn't his fault, I can't blame him)… and unless I'm wildly misremembering, the shock-cut of a scary vampire's face…. reflected in a puddle.

E. Buzz, I just KNOW you forgot to single out Tom Waits along with Oldman and Bellucci. The Renfield to end all Renfields…

Yeah, in Newman's Anno Dracula, that final-or-so scene where we actually SEE the Prince Consort…. well, he's not the erudite, sophisticated royal presence England has been desperately wanting to pretend he is….
(Oh, and I love that Orlok makes an appearance in the Anno books, I think several times…)

INdependently, I would think - the illustrations are a good enhancement and not … you know, comic-booky.

Fun fact, tangentially related: In J.M. Barrie's Peter Pan, it's pretty clear that Captain Hook's name was originally James Hook. So, what a coincidence..

I thought that guy said "welcome to dullness." Not entirely sure I misheard.

he wrote, and lost.

Balleen.

Diana Ross, though. Right?

— and those lyrics will be from murder ballads, I would hope.

I know of a couple who named their kid Ender. They're sci-fi geeks, not mormons. Yet.

Oh, some of us whose dads subscribed to Popular Mechanics in the 50s & 60s were asking where our flying cars where WAY before BttF came out…

Sigh…
I guess I'm just not as discerning as actual professional reviewers, because I would give this ep a B+. I'm liking the long-arc mystery hints — although if they don't clear up SOMEthing by season's end (Skye's parents or Coulson's LMD status) I might be disappointed.
The Ward/Fitz teamup reminded me bit of

I love this show a lot, always have. At the time it aired (yep, I'm that old) some reviewer or other remarked on the onscreen chemistry between Bob and Emily — something along the lines of, yeah, it's a sitcom, no, you'll never see anything, but.. you KNOW they're having sex regularly….

A good place to start with Townes might be the documentary Heartworn Highways. You can rent it from netflix I think. Made in 1975 or so. Some great footage of Townes clowning around, greater footage of him singing (Waitin' Around to Die, notably - just sung at a kitchen table somewhere). It's an intriguing

Oh, I like the Herzog/Kinski one a lot too. I like the silent one better, partly, I think, because those primitive effects should NOT be something that could scare me — but they do every time.
I think somewhere in the Herzog are shots of real tombs with real skeleton pieces (could be fake, I was told they were real)
