I never read the whole thing, but enjoy to pull out a bit here or there. For instance:
"You people can catalog the works of Kurosawa. But you can't stand the withdrawals that is demanded of you in, say, the works of Ozu."

This is a wonderful movie, and one hell of a look at that scene.
It's a movie that, like Parenthood, every time I watch it, I seem to identify/sympathize with a different character. No big trick to that, you just need a good story and a solid variety of characters… but there aren't any other movies I can think of…
Superdad.
I don't need the Earle boxed set, really, as I have all the albums. But it's nice to know it's there, and Heller is right - Taneytown is an incredible song. If I were to rank story-songs (and I won't that's a daunting idea), Taneytown would be at the top. (And Earle's Tom Ames' Prayer would be right below it.)
Speed.
Howard to Duckceed in Business without really Trying
I got mixed up once, paid for a WD-40 show.
I have one of those SNL dvds, Best of Phil Hartman. It has some of his audition bits, and what struck me most (again) was how great he was — but also how friendly and relaxed he seemed. I don't know at what stage the audition was (first or final or whatever) but his stuff was hilarious. Of course.
Will Ferrell called me up at three in the morning to tell me that story.
Maybe, though, in the future when the girl Instagrams her pizza, she's inviting you to have a slice - you will be able to reach into your phone and share pizza.
A followup question… somehow I missed out on Guardians of the Galaxy in the comics (and am not even sure when they appeared - 70s probably?), and long ago realized that when I thought of them I was mixing them up with the Squadron Supreme. Anyway - are there any trade pbs I should check out for a little background? …
I'm a Marvel guy, but DC has some very good potential properties to develop as movies. Personally I'd like a Teen Titans movie, and I think Martian Manhunter could be awesome (I'd turn it into a noir/fish out of water mystery, but that's just me I guess).
And, though it could turn pretty quickly into an unholy mess,…
The same people have probably also nixed movies containing the word "sucker" or "punch", too.
"Rags! RAGS!"
I think the key to liking Bradley Cooper may be in not seeing any Hangover movies, which I haven't. He seems like a fine actor to me, so there.
(Though I used to get him mixed up with Ryan Reynolds, and Ryan Gosling. I can tell them all apart now, so that's progress.)
If the AVC did away with pun threads I would beat them up. I know coati.
No pun threads would make the comments mundiane.
"Everyone thinks a film about a reclusive author would be an uninteresting slog. What this documentary presupposes is.. what if it's not? I mean. It is, but please come and see it."
Cool that you mentioned the British vibe.. entirely coincidentally, I'm sure, Chandler lived in England for a while.
Nice that he mentioned August Derleth and Robert Bloch, too — not exactly household names even if you know who HPL is.
It really is an incredible book. When I first attempted it I skipped the what-I-thought-was-boring-and-necessary parts - the tedious (to me) descriptions of whaling and such. I was either too young or too much in a hurry to actually read the book. When I finally got into it (helped along by a book-on-tape that I…
