space: above and beyond
I'll continue to assert my love for Space, but who actually claims it as an unheralded classic? I'd say it's more that the show is unjustly forgotten. If it had been given more support from the network and another season or two, it might have developed into a classic . . . though of course I'm

Sturgeon's Law.

As a story, the first Transporter isn't good, but as an action movie, it pretty much kicks ass. There's nothing shitty about the fight scene with the ax. Or the one with the oil spread across the floor.

Yep, it's borough, not borrowed.

space: above and beyond
Well, if no one else will stand up and say it, I will. I for one am happy there's a plan to recap Space, even if it's this briefly. I hope Zack is still on board with the idea. It's not the greatest show ever or anything, but damn I love it. Plus, it has one of the more emotionally devastating

bester
For a moment, I was all excited when I saw this pop up on the main page. I thought it was The Demolished Man by Alfred Bester. But no, it's The DUPLICATED Man. The excitement level dipped, and the review seems to back that reaction up.

Per Night Court, meet the wig in question: the Shatner Turbo 2000.

Fast Zombie, I dug Perdido and loved The Scar, but that's the best line I've ever seen about his prose style: "he could easily moonlight as a lyricist for a symphonic metal band." Sad how much I agree with it.

why
Why do I get the impression Jennifer Egan is slightly too clever for her own good? I was really digging The Keep before what you thought the story was turned out to be something of a trick. I found myself wishing when it was over that she'd played it straight. Goon Squad doesn't sound like she's playing the same

is there a role more suited for rhona mitra?
I was just rewatching the batshit craziness of Doomsday a while ago and thinking about what she's done to herself plastic surgery-wise. She's still attractive but weirdly so. She can't play a normal person b/c it's basically given this otherworldly quality, so in her case a

Yeah, it is pretty great. I'm not convinced yet, though, that Willingham knows where to go now the war is over. The last two trade collections, including the Jack of Fables crossover, left me a little cool. At least in comparison to all the great stuff before.

It's streets behind, dude. Streets behind.

I never read it as sabotage. It always seemed in line with the generally increasing level of silliness of the series by that point (which I mean in the best possible way) that he genuinely didn't have a face for tv. Seems much funnier that way, at least to me.

Fair point. In the end, it doesn't matter whether it's a novel and that was a stupid aside I made. Though I also don't see some of your arguments for why it qualifies as one. The stories in Cloud Atlas having thematic connections doesn't turn them into a novel. I just read Alice Mattison's linked short story

cloud atlas
I don't get the love for Cloud Atlas. The individual pieces are all good, but the book as some kind of a whole, not really. I'm not even sure you can call it a novel as such.

Indeed.

21
It's been close to 20 years since I read Logan's Run (and it shouldn't be anybody's idea of a classic), but I believe in the book the age at which people were killed was 21, not 30. Not that I'm clamoring for a movie adaptation filled with cast members from Gossip Girl and the like.

please?
Could somebody please institute a culture-wide moratorium on zombie stuff, even for maybe just a year? Pretty please?

Great, beautiful film.

But thankfully no robot montage (or RLM cameo).
