I thought Kevin Drew's was excellent, but it sounded like a slightly poppier BSS album. What I heard of Brendan Canning's left me fairly cold. Every time I've gone to a random music blog in the last few months to read about this new BSS cd, people have been putting down both those "BSS Presents . . ." albums. I tend

well, finally
I've been waiting for these guys to show up again, at least with an actual, full-on BSS album.

Newport kept reminding me of Captain Pike. I kept wanting his body and wheelchair to be encased in black with him only able to communicate through a yes light and a no light. Then on top of that resemblance, Leslie said, "Live long and prosper." It was a Star Trek kind of night for me.

I just finally read Starship Troopers for the first time. I was never a big Heinlein fan, partly b/c of Stranger in a Strange Land and partly b/c the other stuff I read by him as a kid were his late-period novels. Starship Troopers is fascinating from the standpoint of its ideas, but it's also slow as hell and without

I've always noticed Barnes's books around, but never read any of them before. Are there any that are worthwhile?

I thought Oscar and Lucinda was pretty amazing myself. His other books have been a little hit or miss, but almost always entertaining.

tyler perry is from the planet zeist?
This explains so much.

Does that make Joseph Gordon-Levitt a woman?

God, I hate to be that guy.

Yep, he was great in that movie, and I'm liking the energy he's bringing to the show. It was good to see him in the typical Dwight role, letting Dwight himself be less prominent. His dickishness tends to work better and more believably in smaller doses.

Oh yeah, I forgot the wedding was this season. I liked that one, too . . . even though I'm stuck with the mental image of Kevin wearing Kleenex boxes for shoes. Sigh.

finally
A decent Office. I know there's been disagreement over the quality of this season, but I think this is the only episode I've found fully engaging.

eh
At this point, I'm just watching out of habit, but I did laugh at Bitch Hunter.

does anyone say to Jason Patric . . .
. . . "You must be Max"?

I likes me some Peter Carey.

My favorite comment on Solar so far, from the NY Times Book Review:

He gets served up to a shark in Live and Let Die and loses both an arm and a leg. Which made him lighter. Badump-bump! (I need more sleep.)

I can see why people liked Atonement so much. It just didn't work for me. But loving Amsterdam is a mystery to me. I actually enjoyed it for most of its length, but the ending was so contrived and awful that it retroactively ruined the book. If we were meant to take it seriously, then it was plain silly. If we were

Overrated? Not a fan of Atonement myself and very much disliked Amsterdam. Couldn't even make it through Saturday. Other opinions?

Olivia Newton Cougar Mellencamp indeed.
