really surprised
I'm pretty shocked Claire Messud's The Emperor's Children didn't make the list. It was supposedly one of the best 9/11 novels and I thought it was certainly one of the best novels I read this decade.

overrated
I know I'm in the minority, but I thought Atonement, Bel Canto, The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao, and The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time were all overrated. I'm glad I read them and I enjoyed them all, but I also never got the sheer amount of praise that were heaped on all of them. That…
obligatory hell yeah
John Crowley and "Great Work of Time." Such goodness. Which writer argued for the inclusion of Novelties and Souvenirs? And Kelly Link, too—such a fabulous writer. The ones on here I know make me want to check out the others. I semi-remember hearing about Twilight of the Superheroes and…
Um, I just posted the same comment four times. Very, very embarrassing.

The water pail on top of the door was great all by itself. The idea of trees with guns was funny, but yeah, it would've gone to another level with a bad photoshopped image.
best episode of the season . . .
. . . is a really, really low bar to hurdle. The monologue and the Say Anything sketch were what rescued the episode for me. There was a whole lot of nothing in-between. Well, except for Gore during Weekend Update (even though after being on 30 Rock this week, it was a little bit of…
I thought the scene was only okay, but I kept wondering when it took place. He was far back in the line, then they went on the fifteen minute break, which is when the DM bigwigs got sick of Michael. Since he ran out then, taking everyone with him, when exactly did Dwight deliver his speech? Unless it was an…
dwight
Is it just me, or do the writers seem adrift this year as to what to do with Dwight? For a few seasons, he grew nicely as a character, and now he's regressed. It's gotten to the point where I'm a little too close to bored when he's the focus of a scene.
Precisely, Mr. Martinez, precisely.
One day, when I die, "Man, fuck space" is so going on my tombstone.
so does this mean . . .
. . . we should be expecting a review of Under the Dome this week?
Assless, my mistake was this. I wasn't done with the dvd I was watching on Saturday (another was in the mail on Friday and I wasn't going to send back the third one yet since I hadn't watched it yet), so I took it to the actual post office Sunday and put it in their mailbox. I was hoping against hope that maybe they…
Jingle Bell Rock
I'm an unabashed and unironic fan of Hall & Oates, but their version of "Jingle Bell Rock" might be in my top ten most hated songs ever. Anyone else with me?
The interview was worth it (beyond being a H&O fan) just for that Hall material on his attitude toward music. Such an unexpected take on things.
Well, "taint-tickling Oatestache" is now one of my favorite phrases. Thank you.
"very long wait"
Damn you, Netflix.
