I think the hardcores are pretty happy with AoT — it's relentlessly compelling, but not mindless. JesuOtaku had a good deep think video on it a while back.

But Clannad found an audience, and is great for what it is (the facial and gesture animation is particularly evocative). You're kind of making the Zac Bertschy "they don't make as much of what I like, so anime sucks now" argument.
Bounce shot, or straight down the middle?
Like Genevieve, I grew up in suburban Detroit, and also got much of my TV from across the border in Windsor. I don't recall YTV though (did they appear in the late 80's or 90's, perhaps?), so my influences were CBC and TV Ontario. So as a young child, that meant Sesame Street with the foreign language segments in…
You forgot Attack on Titan for the 2010s. Of course, AV Club forgot to watch it too, which is a shame.
That's fine, I just like how much The Prisoner is unlike other shows of its era, so it's jarring for me to see parallels with contemporaries like Star Trek, The Avengers, Man From U.N.C.L.E., etc. I kind of like how The Prisoner plays a neat trick of being so much of its time (hey! it's the 60's! can you tell?) yet…
Glad to see Colossus made the list. I remember reading about the novels in a Starlog magazine way back when. The film is utterly typical 70's sci-fi, predisposed to dystopia and wraps everything up with an unhappy ending showing humanity (and specifically Forbin) enslaved by its own creation. It seems like all those…
True about the bifurcated fandom: it was funny when last week's "Teens React to…" was AoT and several of the teens had already seen the entire series.
Is there going to be a Summer TV Club? Did I miss the announcement? Seems like lots of the old warhorses people wanted (eg, Babylon 5) finally got episodic coverage over the last few years, so I'm interested to see what's left.
So who's Faust? Madoka or Homura?
It was great for everyone at Anime Central 2014 that we all got to watch Potato Girl on Saturday night. It's like the rare bit of humor in Attack On Titan, before everything goes right back to hell next week.
BTW, I was really surprised that Wake Up, Girls! didn't have a booth selling their CDs. I was interested in picking up a "Tachiagare!" single, and I think Janie would have been in for "7 Girls War". Compare to ACen 2013's musical guest, Kalafina, who had a booth selling albums, region A Blu-Rays, t-shirts, etc.
I was tempted to make the comment that Wake Up, Girls! were assembled for the TV show, and are thus "manufactured" in exactly the same way that The Monkees were… except that all these idol groups are very much manufactured anyways, so they're no less genuine than any of their contemporaries.
Long post on anime, skip if that's not your thing.
Funny our results are so different, because Crunchy's always been perfect on my Rokus, ethernet or wifi.
Yep, the whole thing is on funimation.com, dubbed or subbed, on Funi's Rumbling Hearts page. They also have all of the sub on YouTube (which means you can pinpoint the exact moment the descent into Hell begins). Funimation's home video license probably lapsed years ago, but somehow, they still have streaming rights.
Heal quickly. And I can't wait to hear what you think of the k-drama Boys Over Flowers; I've always wanted to see that.
No, I'm right with you on that one. Honestly, the problem is neither Mitsuki (whom I really like) or Haruka (who grows so much after her second wake-up), but Takayuki, who is at best a "nice guy", but one who tries to please everyone and can't seem to make hard choices.
Long, obscure anime post… skip if you're not into that kind of thing.
While I'm particularly interested in Colonial and Revolutionary War America, I saw the Turn pilot on a plane and instead of immediately setting up a season pass on my DVR, I said "eh, I'll get back to it" Looks like I may have missed my chance, alas.
