I rewound the scene and watched it a second time, but I still don't understand why the young assassin could have possibly been satisfied that he had in fact killed Rossetti.  Did he mistake Rossetti's suffocation related pains for a reaction to being shot?

It's certainly not a case of her being bad in the roles she's been given.  People have quit on their own before completing a single season, but short of someone not getting along with management, that would be unprecedented.
