Actually Capaldi's age isn't just a departure from the last three actors, but the last eleven. Smith and Davidson are the only actors to have been in the role in their 20s, everyone else has been late 30s to 50s. The season 8 finale of Supernatural, the final shots of that episode were pretty great. Then again, Supernatural is pretty good to great with their cliffhangers.
