I find the most rewarding part of reviewing podcasts for me has been getting feedback from the shows I review where they say "good point." Then when I check in on the show a month or 2 later, they've cleaned up a lot of the issues I addressed and the hosts tell me they are getting a better response from their audience

actually you would be surprised how many podcasters are making a living. I'm not saying its the majority or anything but the more podcasters I talk to the more impressed I am by how many of them make some cash with some clever methods.
Sadly all the LA casts with huge audiences aren't doing quite as well for whatever

I kind of like those little phrases that are obvious rough translations. I'm in the middle of Murakami's novel 1Q84 and I keep noticing them here and there. Maybe it's because I grew up on anime that was subtitled but there's something about those phrases I find comforting.

it counts if you want it to count. the world is your oyster don't let anyone set the rules for you LOVE IS FREE!

for me the best thing in Totoro is when the Cat Bus changes location to "Mei" will never not make me giggle.

Nausicaa (I don't care if it came before its basically the "first" Ghibli film)
Grave of the Fireflies
Totoro
Only Yesterday
Torn between Whisper of the Heart and Mononoke, I'll just go home and watch them back to back to decide.

agreed. I would take that over Arrietty anyday. Also, Mononoke over Howl's Moving Castle.

having just seen Only Yesterday at the AFI theater in Silver Spring I can say I agree with you. I would've agreed based solely on Grave of the Fireflies but having been the only other Takahata movie I've seen I couldn't really judge that against all the Miyazaki that makes it here in the states.

Yeah I provide free, long-form content too and I stop right around an hour. I also work a boring 9-5 job and listen to 40hrs/week of podcasts every week. That said, if a show has 2 hours of content they are better served to break that up into 2 episodes because after about an hour of any one subject most people start

2 hours? I really can't stand the shows that run extra long. Maybe it's because I have to review so many each week and listen to enough episodes to actually provide a decent review but anything over 90 minutes feels borderline selfish. It's like they're saying "hey, no one put a timer on us so let's take as much of

he was on my show I can't remember if we talked about it during the interview or afterwards but I told him I refuse to let him not do another podcast at some point

ok so back when the show was 20 eps old I gave it an absolute shit review but since you guys are convinced its the greatest thing since sliced bread I want to see what its like now.
Recommendations for best recent episode I should check out?

is that what that is? I just thought jazz fusion and went with it.

I can't wait to see what Mike does next, I think his idea for shorter shows about the Civil War would be effing amazing.

I think once the music started it was over and Andy was king of the world again.

he's not really done yet, I talked to him a few weeks ago it'll be up on my podcast tomorrow but yeah, Mike ain't done and I intend to force him to keep doing the good work
