a good starting place would be to check out Podmass' "Best" section. That's basically where you wanna go for all the best comedy casts.

My advice Steve, as a Podmass writer and host of a podcast about podcasts, is to take all those similar shows you listen to, pick 1 or 2 that you really like and ditch the rest, then pick any topic you are interested in and google it with the word podcast. If you want some comedy casts that break the mold, check out

and his interview with Obama got tons of mainstream press so more people will listen, and probably find more podcasts. There are probably 20-30 million podcast listeners in the world (best estimate I've heard from anyone) which is a helluva lot more than just 2 years ago. Give it time, not everyone watched TV in 1950.

false! there are unique and interesting shows about literature, science fiction, gardening, green energy, physics, philosophy, marxism, technology, Jesus, apes, dragons. Everything. Just pick a word and google it with the word podcast, see what comes up

I definitely snorted when he said that

but you do get if you listen to his podcast Comedy Film Nerds.

I like that everyone jumped in with recommendations without first asking "What are you into/what do you like?"
There is a podcast for almost everything. Even if you just want comedy casts it still needs to be broken down more. If you liked the HDTGM with the movie creators you'd probably be into other movie podcasts

Yup, I got burned out a while back on the LA casts too that's why I keep bringing in new shows in the New (To Us) feature that are similar but have totally new guests, there'll be another one next week as well.

Video games seem mainstream enough to fit into New To Us since AV Club has a video games section or at least that's the logic I used.

I actually found those year in review eps worse than the most recent two. It was just guys making a list and sort of fumbling their way through what's good and bad and randomly eliminating games. It was pretty hard for me to follow and one of those guys (can't remember his name) kept correcting people on the most

And that's cool and I don't begrudge anyone their love of dudes shootin the shit but from a reviewer's perspective I have to think about an audience that is unfamiliar with the show. If a show claims to be about video games and then spends a large chunk of time talking about pizza, which is at best tangentially

But everyone knows about the BBC shows as well so its the same problem you've already stated with regards to the largely LA based podcasts but this time based out of London or Cardiff or wherever. I for one would like some more UK based podcasts that are good and haven't faded away which seems to always be the problem

There are other good places to find out about shows you've never heard of including The Plop List and The Audio Drama Directory. More people will be latching onto this medium in one way or another in 2012 and there'll be blogs and other podcasts dedicated to talking about podcasts for sure.

I know! I gave them 15 points! Its a crime.

We Hate Movies went from decent to my favorite podcast of the year right after they went weekly. Dammit that show is good.

It's a Jewish conspiracy Zaltzman is pulling all the strings to look like the underdog so we won't notice when an unceasing wave of Badonkadonks start rolling through our streets spreading bullshit, both literal and metaphorical, all over our houses.

Here, here!

I fell off the smodwagon back in the spring when I didn't have 40 hours a week to fill with podcasts. For whatever reason TESD just did not make the cut. Maybe random episode lengths and 6 minutes of up front adverts (just split them up throughout the show!) got me but I haven't gone back since

I've been subscribed to it for 6 months but haven't taken a listen, I'll give it a try

Oh I know that part was awesome but I have to stay under 150 words or so and I just could not physically fit it in. I love the pun runs more than life itself it seems.
