I read that and thought it was interesting, but for some reason the bit where someone (was it the dad?) is outside and looks up and sees the son in the famous windows with the demonic pig behind him creeped me right out.

I thought the scene with the thing in the snowed-in cement tube very creepy. Following it up with the 'chase' scene with the topiary pushed it to another level.

'The Haunting of Hill House' disturbed me when I read it, and that was just a few years ago. The atmosphere she engenders with her prose was amazing.
