It's supposed to be, but I think the execution of it actually glamorizes domestic violence, unfortunately. This reminds me a lot of activists trying to get people to stop listening to metal in the 80s because "Heavy metal is for satanists!" which of course had the inverse effect by making heavy metal faux satanism…

I actually snuck a bottle into the theater with me, hated 300, and as I got drunker, I got more and more confused about how/why something I was excited for could be this disappointing. I remember asking my girlfriend at the time "are we in the right theater?" because the awfulness I was experience confounded me…

When I saw 300 in theaters (the only time I did), I wrote it off instantly as crap. I'm actually intrigued now by the idea that two generations of AV Clubbers from now, people will be watching it for the same reasons that I watch Hard Target of my own volition.

The way those chirpy, high end guitar tones pop in and out in intro and bridges always makes me think of a chorus of robot birds interrupting each other as they sit on the back of those mammoth, lumbering rhythm guitars and bass.
