I'll add to the chorus that I dismissed the US series due to the poor pilot and picked up on a lot of laughs when I caught up with the show years later.

It's like how Vaughn couldn't pull off Norman Bates' character in the Psycho remake. Where Perkins was diminutive, timid and bird-like, Vaughn's stature and demeanor of a big ape doesn't cut it.
