I've long maintained that the signature question of this season is: "What are you doing here, Lapidus?"
I also think every time he says something (which is about once per episode, roughly,) someone else should respond: "Who the eff asked you, Lapidus?"

I was under the impression that some singing midgets with their faces painted would be unveiled as a crucial island secret. Also, Hurley would at last find the Everlasting Gobstopper.

Cliffsnotes version of the Island segments
One dude: I say we go over here and do this!
'Nother dude: Well, I say we go over here and do this! Jacob!
(Factions form, various shuffling about.)
Dead guy: The whispers are GHOSTS!
Desmond: AHHHHHHH!
Smocke: What are you doing here, Lapidus?

Make your OWN miracle
Thundercats, Care Bears, Snorkles, Smurfs!
Nick Nolte and Gary Busey/ separated at birf?

Clarke's law
A technology sufficiently advanced becomes indistinguishable from magic…up in this bitch!

It does look improbably good.

Does this top Shaq's memorable "Do you want me to slam it?" jam?
"I'm the rookie, Clint Eastwood, Martin Sheen AHHH! Leave me alone I'm turning green!"

Ye cats!
This is a GAME CHANGER!

I like Agee a lot, but I don't think his lyric sentimentality and willful, troubled naivete would translate well to an Internet forum.

Seconded. Palahniuk is like Irvine Welsh, but much, much worse. Once you get over the shock value, you're left with ludicrous plots and shoddy sentences.

I haven't read Lowboy yet, but would love to for Wrapped.

Frolic is great. It's a lot easier to access than Recognitions (which killed me) and JR (which I loved), and it's got a wicked sense of humor.

If on a Winter's Night a Traveler would be my pick for Calvino.
Or if we wanted to get nuts, Cosmiccomics.

I gotta agree with Rowan. Snow Crash is entertaining as heck, but there's not a lot to discuss outside that. Crypto is straight up dull. We'd be better off reading Pynchon or Borges or any number of authors whose ideas Stephenson watered down.

That's a good one. Drood would also be pretty dope.

Recs in effect
Well, for non-fiction "Our Band Could Be Your Life" by Michael Azzerrad (sic, probs) could be fun.
For novels, "Clark Gifford's Body" by Kenneth Fearing, is a pretty nifty bit of speculative fiction/political thriller. Or Sam Lipsyte's "Home Land," would ring a lot of bells.

The skinny
Dhalgren c'est moi.

Donaghy, you've had too much of your Long Island wine—that's not Lemon, that's another double L: Lisa Loeb!

Underrated and awesome
From her work in Billy Childish's Thee Headcoatees to her midperiod garage blowouts to her later noirish pop stuff, Holly is THE REAL DEAL.

When?
When will the gum Smokey likes come back into style?
