Yeah. It was partly snobbery - it showed that your interests were at the other end of the spectrum from Lover's Rock - and I kind of got the impression that amateur bassists etc. gravitated towards dub because they thought it was easy. "I was aware, too, if I got arrested for that, how ludicrous my life would look" - I think we'd all just incorporate that into his general John Lydon-ness, wouldn't we? As well as appreciating the whole 'protecting his grandkids from the giant creepy thing' aspect, I mean.

I'm glad he cheerfully denied the 'first to use dub' thing. That sound was all over the place at that time - has Semley never heard Watching the Detectives?

You could just see the religion as part of the characterisation.
*The writers inherited the colonists' pseudo-pagan stuff from the old series, as far as I remember, but it's also demotic, & can be presented as the belief of simple, straightforward people.

There are 6 or 7 great songs on it, and like all their later stuff it changes the more you listen to it, till a disregarded song suddenly jumps out as being beautiful. The Bends is still a great crunchily melodic album, though, so you've

I'd be interested to hear more about what bothers you about the portrayal of the religion in the show. Oh, and… the wandering plot threads and other problems people mention are true, but personally I was really glad I stuck with the whole thing, and Season 3 is a must.

Finished reading Hilary Mantel's Bring Up The Bodies, in the garden while the swifts went to bed and the bats came out. Fucking great.
