I found Cooper's comments to Lucero even more funny, as there was a loose cow IN TOWN here yesterday, and the cops were FIRING ON IT IN TOWN before they finally killed it.  Apparently, it escaped from the local in-town butcher? (google eMissourian and "loose cow")

In a situation where you're trying to subdue a guy who's fighting back in a confined space with a crowd of people surrounding you, it's best to stand back and let the cop do his job.  Like you said, either one could pull a weapon and start hurting those around you.
