I always had a problem with the switches, as most of the series once the Healy boys are introduced only works with Mark & Becky and David & Darlene, but don't work with them switched.  Even when Mark "smartens up" in s9, and David becomes less of a geek.

plus, he was "not cheating" with a woman in LA, which was where he took his mother for her mental needs, which was a thinly veiled excuse to say he was "cheating" on the show with his movies he had already signed up for before she decided to do s9 (BB2K, Fallen, and Lebowski, which he is wearing the beard in the final

also, they actually worked the "parables' and "morals" INTO the show as part of the plot, often showing consequences, and didn't end them with saccharine little moments tying everything up like every other show from Leave it to Beaver up to today's nonsense.

Sara was Darlene. Sarah was Becky2.
I do have to disagree with you a bit, as I thought Sara blossomed as an actress once Lecy left and wound up with more interaction with the adult cast.  Her getting into the "goth" and comics was the trend at the time, and I was hoping that they would adapt Gaiman's Sandman or even

Part of it was she was "promised certain things" and being new to Hollywood, she took people at their word, but then found out how things really were.

This show resonated with me, mostly for being a more realistic look at life, as well as being set in the Midwest proper, so it was literally close to home.  The fact the male lead grew up a short distance away, as well as the titular star bearing a passing resemblance to my own mother, also helped in my identification.

She came in fifth, over all, behind Johnson and Stein (and ahead of the other guy on the MO ballot, CST party???), and earlier tonight (last night? it's almost 4am) she posted something about getting elected President (PM?) of Israel.
