In that case, though, the Cylons never had a "plan," they were just sort of making things up as they went along. Why go to all the trouble of placing sleeper agents in key positions decades in advance, engaging in a massive sneak attack, and tracking the survivors across half a galaxy if they're just going to let

Fair enough. I never said it was a great episode.

I disagree. For me, watching it in large chunks on Netflix really made the seams
show. The writing of the characters was especially weak. Characters would behave as if they had no memory of what happened to them just a few episodes ago. Really, Starbuck? You're conflicted about whether to believe Leoben? He imprisoned

You touch on one of the big weaknesses of the show: the Cylons' "plan." The show made this big deal about it (heck, the opening credits always said "they have a plan"), but it never made sense to me.

It's a shame that Helfer's role during the series was mostly as eye candy, because she seemed talented enough.

I still don't understand what makes "Black Market" so terrible. It's a bit weak, sure, but there's such a wealth of horrible episodes to choose from the back half of season 3 that I'm not sure why "Black Market" always gets picked on. I always thought that it was an interesting experiment in world-building: what kind

Roslin was easily my favorite character, mostly because she was the only one who changed drastically over the course of the show yet still seemed like the same person throughout. Other characters, like Starbuck and Baltar, changed a lot but were written inconsistently, so by the end they seemed like completely

Which season had Kain and the Pegasus in it? *SPOILER* The cliffhanger ending where Pegasus and Galactica have actually launched Vipers and have their nukes pointed at each other was one of the best moments of the show.

Early on, the show was at its worst whenever Boomer's magical Cylon baby was a plot point. The part where they were all "Roslin your cancer is cured because MAGIC BABY BLOOD" was infuriating.

That episode had a lot of implausibilities, but the reveal of the Cylon raiders as *SPOILER* basically inside-out skinjobs instead of actual piloted ships was so cool and unexpected that I was willing to forgive it. I'm a hater when it comes to BSG, but I try not to forget that its early run had a lot of really great

You liked the boxing episode over "33"? Are you insane? That episode was the final straw that made me decide, no, I don't give a shit how this show ends.

@avclub-3be42d8a3412057f79af152555e39bd4:disqus Writing serious critical articles about reality television is like digging around in a sewer for a twenty-dollar bill. Maybe you'll end up twenty dollars ahead, but you're still knee-deep in shit.

COUNTERPOINT: Yes.

I'm not REALLY the owl of cancer. Just a regular ol' owl.

It's Elegant Victorian Lady, you boorish clown!

NECROBUTCHER SUCKS A FAT DAWES!

@Bob K I'm sure that's giving Zack Snyder way too much credit, given his hamhanded choices in the rest of the film. In a world where The Graduate exists, you'd have to have a damn good reason to use that song, and playing it over a rainy funeral scene "cuz it sounds all mournful" doesn't quite cut it.

@avclub-cfe912f5cb3aa572bd1c9ae2a9b82207:disqus , let's be friends. That's an extremely solid selection of Kurosawa films to start with (though I'd swap in Yojimbo for Throne of Blood—you gotta have Yojimbo). High and Low and Red Beard are both great but tend to be overshadowed by the more famous masterpieces. They

Damn, NFET, that's quite a day for you. What a treat to see Seven Samurai for the first time! I wish I could go back in time and do the same thing again. What a film.

I don't think Cat's Cradle is even the best book by Vonnegut, but it is quite good. If you read nothing but it for the rest of your life, you'd still probably end up a much better, more compassionate human being than most.
