It doesn't take a genius to make fun of this stuff, though. Todd VDW is completely right about the weird editing rhythms and the obvious artificiality. My favorite part was during the biography segment for the Mormon group. One of the girls (the one with the dumb haircut) says something like, "We still like to get

I always feel slightly ashamed to admit it to anyone, but I'm in my 20s and I still unironically enjoy Weird Al. People don't give him (and his band) enough credit for how much talent it takes to ape so many different genres so well. Plus, he's just a good-natured goof. How can you not like the guy's energy? If

Yeah, Magic: the Gathering for me too. Learning to play that game in seventh grade was probably the start of my hardcore nerdiness, though I don't think I had the epiphany about it until high school, when I got obsessed with all things Middle-earth and realized "Wow, I am a huge fantasy geek." (Seriously, I was taking

Gross
That Fuckshovel video is the most vile thing I've seen for months. And I practically live on the Internet.

Nah, Mario FTW. His plucking speed was only slightly slower than Toad's, and he had the best jump after Luigi. The Princess could fly, but she took so long to pull up vegetables that you practically had time to write in your diary every time she tried.

What was wrong with me
I remember my family renting this when I was about 7 years old. My parents hated it, but I actually liked it. Just further proof that little kids will enjoy ANYTHING loud and flashy.

In the future, I get to have sex! WITH A WOMAN!

Thanks for your interest, teadoust! The address is

Tercotta: The problem with the cat scene is that it looks dumb. I'm not one to nitpick on the basis of special effects, but in this case the cheap-looking CGI made the scene look cartoony when it needed to be horrifying. The rest of the movie is so filled with quiet dread that a woman flailing around with fake cats

Synecdoche, NY … sigh
I'm not surprised that it wasn't included, but still … why no love for it? It's at least as good as Adaptation, and a damn sight better than crap like "A History of Violence." Maybe the documentaries should have been left off and given their own list.

I love 28 Days Later, but you have to admit that it flags a little bit once the soldiers enter the picture. Not enough to derail the whole movie, as I've heard some detractors claim, but it still doesn't quite get there when it's up against so many great films.

I also don't get the love for "A History of Violence" around here. As an examination of the havoc that violence wreaks on a person's soul and personal life, "Munich" stomps all over AHOV.

Was anyone else really happy to see "The Man Who Wasn't There" on this list? When I posted my top 20 on my blog earlier this evening, with it at #19, I figured nobody would understand why.

I'm amazed that this discussion is even happening. Look, "Hellboy" was great genre fare, but better than "Pan's Labyrinth"? Not even close.

The glaringly shoddy scene where a bunch of cats attack the neighbor lady automatically demotes "Let the Right One In" to "good, but not top-50 material." That movie was pretty close to greatness, though.

Two Towers was great, of course, but Fellowship is the best of the trilogy. Two Towers had a few plot cul-de-sacs (the Entmoot, Faramir trying to take Frodo back to Minas Tirith, Aragorn falling off the cliff and being presumed dead) that didn't do much other than lengthen the running time and piss off purists. I will

Jorge Von Salsa FTW. Never thought I'd run into a tesseract joke … well, ever.

Also, don't forget his hilariously random cameo as the bartender in "The Invention of Lying." He completely stole that scene with just a few lines and reaction shots.

I love Shattered Glass because it's a movie about writers that actually seems to have a clue about how writers actually do their work. Its virtues cover over a multitude of Finding Forresters.

Jessica Alba - "Fantastic Four 2"
Keanu Reeves - "The Matrix Revolutions"
everyone in "Attack of the Clones"
