Agreed. I like Titanic in that "Gone With the Wind", old school Hollywood spectacle kind of way. But LA Confidential is a masterpiece.

and the ending! I love that our two protags are forced to work together in a shoot-out, which is just quick and brutal. Plus when Ed finally shoots the Captain at the end, he does so without uttering a "clever" one-liner. Just silence and perfection.
