It doesn't smell so good the third time.

This movie is really good
There was a screening of this film at the NFT in London a few weeks back, although there's no sign of a general release for it. I thought it was a fascinating film, and Nathan's article completely nails what's so great about it. I felt particularly sorry for Davenport, especially when Mohmed…
Bad blurbs
The worst example of this I saw was in a TV Guide listing for The King of Comedy. It described the film as "a comedy starring Robert De Niro (Analyze That) and directed by Martin Scorsese (Kings of New York)".
Dustin the Turkey
He's one of Ireland's biggest celebrities, you know. Hes a TV star, he's had hit singles - including performances with Bob Geldof and Joe Dolan - and he's even run in elections. What a shame those European judges couldn't recognise his star quality.
By the way, I hope you didn't take my original comment as a criticism. I thought this was a really entertaining interview and I'm looking forward to seeing The Fall now.
Long interview
How come this interview is so long? I often think a lot of the interviews on this site with much more notable filmmakers are frustratingly short, and this guy gets 4 pages?
Die Hard
Die Hard was a summer blockbuster? I always thought it would have been released towards the end of the year, as it seems weird to open a Christmas-set movie in July.
The best real-time film I've seen is Russian Ark, which is shot in one continuous take. It's a bit slow and soporific in places, but worth watching for the amazing final scenes.
"It's as if Frank Capra made a porn film"
Was that really the best quote they could get to sell the film? Now I can't get the image of Jimmy Stewart out of my head, his face contorted in orgasmic pleasure as he comes, and muttering "attaboy Clarence" under his breath.
This movie…..
….is pretty bad, as you'd expect, but Djimon Hounsou makes for a really good wise mentor. That man has some serious screen presence, and every time he appears Never Back Down starts to look a little bit like a real film rather than the loud and stupid Karate Kid knock-off it is.
A romance of the oilfields
Hmm…the book's tagline doesn't sound much like There Will Be Blood, unless there's a very different connotation to be read into Plainview drinking Eli's milkshake.
Morvern Callar
If any UK readers want to see Morven Callar before reading Scott's next article, it's on BBC 1 this coming Tuesday night.
Tarantino
I remember a few years ago seeing an interview with Quentin Tarantino about his use of music, and he said there are certain songs that he would never touch because they are inextricably linked in his mind to particular films. As an example, he said he loved "Be My Baby" by The Ronettes, but he would never…
The Limey
One of my favourite film/song moments occurs in Soderbergh's The Limey, when Peter Fonda is introduced with a montage of his scenes from later in the picture, and it's set to the sound of "King Midas in Reverse" by The Hollies. I think it's one of the coolest and most imaginative character introductions I've…
There's nothing depressing about great cinema. Most of the best films of 2007 were challenging, thought-provoking and ambitious, and it was exciting to experience that.
two musical dance numbers set to "I Will Survive."
Because one, clearly, is never enough.
Yeah - that man never makes bad movies!
Tadpole
Wow, I can't imagine how anybody - even Miramax - though the dull and shallow and ugly Tadpole was worth $5 million. $10 million for Happy Texas is pretty nuts too, although that's an enjoyable little movie.
Oscars
You know, the only disappointing thought about the Oscars being potentially cancelled is the fact that this year there's actually a load of people I really like up for the main prizes. Daniel Day-Lewis, The Coens, PT Anderson, Johnny Depp, Javier Bardem, Casey Affleck, Julie Christie, Roger Deakins - they're…
