I particularly like the way it takes Pilate's hints of doubt and conflict in the Bible, throws it in the context of the politics of the time and creates an almost tragic figure.

Think of all the professional athlete guest stars on TV over the years. Can you remember a performance better than Keith Hernandez on Seinfeld? I can't.
"Rosen-D-2 and Gild-P-O are Dead"?
I wasn't yet alive in the late 60's and early 70's, but for better or for worse, my mental image of that period was formed by Beyond the Valley of the Dolls… the sheer sensual craziness of Zman's party… then the bad trip of complete batshit craziness that follows when he starts referring to himself as "Supergirl".
"Bart, time for church". "Milhouse, time for church". "Schlomo, time for your violin lesson;"
My favorite character-summarizing line from Comic Book Guy:
Scary to adults? Certainly not. But to a kid? Geez, let's ennumerate how many different ways there were to be terrified at age 6;
For several years afterwards, the word "Carpathian" brought to mind visions of a Mordor-esque land of unimaginable horror.
I don't think anyone would consider the Walloon region of Belgium utopia, socialist or otherwise.
The Cavalier King Charles Spaniel in James Franco's arms looks as if he wished he were in a different movie.
Leaf by Niggle? Farmer Giles of Ham? The Homecoming of Beorhtnoth Beorhthelm's Son?
Internet comment boards tend to be filled with lazy, unoriginal attempts at humor, you may have noticed. For example, mention a canoli in any context whatsoever, and someone will inevitably quote that damn line from the Godfather again.
At least from the trailer, it looks like this film will bring back some of the dirt and grime that made the design of the original trilogy look far more believable. In addition to being too visually busy, the prequels were just … just too shiny and clean.
I look forward to reading the complaints when the film inevitably contradicts some point that that megafans consider cannonical.
The beatnik concept is such a potentially rich comic trope. It's a shame that late 60s counter-culture overwhelmed almost all memory of what came before it. There's some comic gold to be mined prior to the Johnson presidency.
Now, how about some kind of shriveling head novelty for Col. Dietrich? Perhaps a balloon?
I'm intrigued. Do they hate Paul Revere because they think he's a mediocre silversmith? Do they hate his membership in the Sons of Liberty or do they hate his midnight rides?
Watching this compilation, I realized something for the first time. There's nothing specific about the individual number segments. They're all pretty interchangeable. But this doesn't matter, because they're also all completely awesome.
That Alligator King segment was the reason I refused to eat cherries until I was 6. I misunderstood, and thought eating cherries would break my teeth.
At least you know not to look in the Alamo's basement.
