My favourite episode of this season was Far Away Places. I'm a sucker for non-linear narrative structure - especially when it is used sparingly and well. Combined with final shot of that episode I thought it was wonderful.

Maybe, but i'm pretty sure your simile relating the amount of "yo" to overweight peoples dietary habits will be more controversial.

I'm not really concerned about an overarching narrative, as long as we get strong episodes, and the characters are further developed. I do agree that it was weird that the Lane thing came out of nowhere. It would have worked better had they actually built to that rather than throwing it in there but I still would say

I think hate is a bit of a strong word to use. Loved it a tiny bit less maybe.

Indeed that was a memorable episode, but the finale had such presence, and in the past two years the memory of those other episodes has faded a little but "Shut the Door, Have a seat" is still strong in my memory

If i had to order them i would say 2, 5, 4, 1, 3
I keep forgetting that season 3 wasn't quite as good as other seasons because "Shut the door, have a seat" is definitely my favourite episode of Mad Men (with Far Away Places and the season 1 finale being close), and I can really only think of that episode strongly when

Pretty much agree with everything you said. Saves me from having to write a horribly written comment. I thought the scene where Don "fires" Lane was incredible, though I did think that some of the stuff that wasn't focused on Don and Land was of a lesser quality.

I really am liking this show. My main problem with it is that it needs a little room to breathe. I think the low number of episodes means they have to cram a lot into a short space of time. For instance I would have liked to see the corruption of Tarrlok play out over a couple of episodes, that way the climax would be

Here I was thinking I would only watch this episode tonight if it was amazing (since I have work to do) and I come here and people are foaming at the mouth about its awesomeness.
Dammit.

I did like the first part, especially both the door and the suit stories (although the actual birth story was pretty lame). And I mostly enjoyed the second part - yes we were all pretty certain it was Robin, and although they made it to like it was a twist, I think in the long run its an important part of the story.
