Yes. he plays the Gulf.

Hotel New Hampshire is a lovely, heartbreaking book. But most of Irving's other work I can't stand for some reason. His style got bloated and sloppy, and his stories started going mostly nowhere.
@ Elitist—great observation on Dylan. "Desolation Row" is the other side of that coin, if you ask me. Same message, different cast of characters.

Walken: thank you. Unpleasant people doing unpleasant things for unpleasant reasons. That's pretty much what i hate about Seinfeld, Everybody Loves Raymond, and most other modern sitcoms of that type. None of it is funny to me.
Thanks, Gern. I have a passionate hate for Wolfe and his endless, annoying conflating of himself with his work . . . to the point where he wanted the paperback of Charlotte Simmons to be published with HIS NAME and nothing else on the front cover, and the book's actual title in smaller print on the spine. if that…
Tarkovskys, I take it back. THAT was the most self-indulgent piece of tripe I've ever read.
Well, that's pretty dumb right there!
I was there and I saw what he did.
Regarding Joyce, "Dubliners" is one of the best collections of short fiction I've ever read, and "Ulysses" is a pain in the ass to read but ultimately very rewarding. Not every novel should be hard work to read, but Joyce manages to make me enjoy the chore with "Ulysses." I understand why people might not like it,…
Yeah, 90% of Pryor's movies are, sadly, crapfests.
Have you considered the lilies of the field? They toil not, neither do they sow.
Tarkovskys, that was the most self-indulgent piece of tripe I've ever read.
Seriously. How the hell do you "dumb down" rock and roll?
Gonna back this 100%. I love Siamese Dream and Gish—even Pisces Iscariot and Melon Collie to a lesser degree. But Corgan became more and more intolerable, picking lame fights with Jim DeRogatis (someone else I can't stand) and just generally being a douchebag onstage. His conduct after Melvoin's death was pretty…
Said it before and I'll say it again: Superunknown was the best Black Sabbath album Led Zeppelin ever did.
cdiddles, read "Ronin" and the "Daredevil: Born Again" trade. They're far and away the best things he ever did, and they'll help you understand why longtime fans like myself are so disappointed in the work he's been pissing out for the last 15 years or so.

Hemingway's short fiction is far superior to his novels.
