I guess I'm not far enough along that I would have expected much plot to unfold, but now that you mention it, a lot of the funniest books I've read have been light on plot (to the extent they even have one)—e.g. Don Quixote, The Harz Journey, Confessions of Felix Krull, Journey to the End of the Night, Conversations

TDOTS is the first thing by him I've read, but I'm looking forward to reading more of his stuff in the future. I was thinking I'd hold off awhile on True Grit since I saw the movie, but since you say its great maybe I'll rethink that.  I'm sure its probably better than the movie in any case…

Agreed in principle, although as a counterpoint I would offer zubrowka (weird Polish letters omitted), this vodka that I tried in Poland that is flavored with bison grass. Just started The Dog of the South by Charles Portis.  I'm not terribly far along, but really enjoying it so far.  If it comes anywhere close to keeping up the pace of laugh out loud moments that it has in the first few chapters, it will definitely finish as one of the funniest books I've read.  There's a quote on the
